As we prepare and plan for 2022, we have several areas where we believe God is calling us to serve. Christ UMC has affirmed four priorities for the next year in addition to our normal operating budget.
There are so many ways you can support Christ UMC in the coming year, please consider how you can get involved in the coming year.
Frequently Asked Questions
For 2022, our church revenue budget is approximately the same as the projected 2021 revenue budget. We are currently budgeting $1,055,000 for 2022 budget. The stabilty that we have seen is partially due to over 80% of our giving coming from recurring electronic type of gifts like ACH, online checking or our EGiving portal. For our current planned budget to be funded, we need everyone to do in 2022 what they did in 2021 to fully fund next year's budget.
Staff Parish which is all the costs related to our staff salaries and benefits make up 52.7% of our budget. Our Trustees/Building committee needs make up 23.8% of the budget. This includes all of our insurance costs, utilities, lawncare, maintainence, and long term capital replacement costs. We contribute 12.7% to The UMC Tennessee Conference for our greater connectional ministries of The UMC church. The remaining 10.8% is used to fund our outreach programs, children, youth, music, worship and adult ministries.
2022 Ministry priorities have been budgeted for approximately 50% of their full yearly cost without additional gifts. For those that wish, additional gifts will be used to expand or broaden the impact of the designated ministry priority. Each event or ministry costs less than $6,000 a year to fund, so small gifts make a big impact and a chance for all of us to be part of their success. Even with no additional gifts, each will happen on some level for 2022.
COVID has been challenging for all churches in our conference. From 2019 to 2020, we saw sizable declines in attendance and a contraction in our finances as a church. In 2021, we have returned to a level of stablity with a slow return of our church membership to in person activites. Compared to our peers, we have had higher levels of in-person worship attendance with our finances being better than most of our peers. Virtual engagement as a church is becoming commonplace with about 20% of each Sunday's worship attendance still coming from our online channels.
For 2021, debt payments had been projected to make up 12% of 2021 budget. Church leadership has made hard choices over the past decade on what can get funded due to our debt load. Being debt free has allowed the church to fully fund the building maintenance program, give staff their first cost of living raise in 3 years, return ministries budgets to pre-COVID levels and partially fund four new priorities in our church budget.
Yes, you can still give to all of our church outreach ministry partners via our EGiving portal. For 2022, Christ UMC will have bi-monthly ministry offerings for several of our established minstries in the church as extra mile giving. In addition, our outreach ministry team has budgeted funds to support select outreach events, partner ministries and other community engagement activities. In addition as part of one of our 2022 priorities, we have funded one food distribution event with OneGen Away for 2022.
